CARRIAGES
For centuries horse carriages were the main means of transportation. Many styles, from the one-horse carriage to the four-horse carriage, were fabricated as toys or for display purposes. The cheaper ones were made of cardboard or wood; the more expensive ones could be had in tin, finely detailed and elaborately painted. The expensive tin carriages were only produced by a restricted number of well-known manufacturers, such as Büchner, Lutz, Rock & Graner, Märklin and Martin.
